Celebrating Our Work in 2023 and Looking Forward to 2024!

As the CNEE team reflects on our work in 2023, we celebrate the progress made as states and our nation continue the transition to an equitable clean energy economy.

The Clean Energy Legislative Academy (CELA) – we hosted our seventh annual Academy in Breckenridge, Colorado. This year, 27 state legislators engaged with national subject matter experts on topics ranging from energy security and resilience to bipartisan energy policy and environmental justice. We continue to offer support to our bipartisan network of 115 active CELA alumni across the country as they develop state-level clean energy policy.

CNEE’s State-level Clean Energy Policy Tracking Tools – CNEE continues to offer both the Advanced Energy Legislative (AEL) Tracker and the State Policy Opportunity Tracker (SPOT) for Clean Energy, our free state legislative and policy tracking tools. AEL Tracker has nearly 40,000 bills in its searchable database, which covers 11 years of state energy policy. SPOT provides a gap analysis of 36 energy policies for each of the 50 states. We are excited to announce that we will be releasing new platforms for both the AEL Tracker and SPOT for Clean Energy. Stay tuned for the release in the New Year!

Energy Transitions – our work supporting energy communities in transition has continued this year with the release of our ongoing series of newsletters exploring current events and opportunities for Mountain West Coal Communities in Transition. Additional resources for energy communities in transition can be found here and at

Convenings – CNEE continues to facilitate conversations between decision-makers, communities, and subject matter experts. In 2023, we hosted discussions on topics including clean fuels, renewable energy siting, geothermal energy, the future of natural gas, and EPA’s 111(B&D) rulemaking.

As state and local governments continue to take action to prepare for and facilitate the energy transition, the CNEE team looks forward to supporting decision-makers and communities. We hope to engage with you all in the New Year as we build an equitable clean energy economy for all.
